It’s here, it’s here! I ordered my Naked Smoky Palette a few weeks ago when it was exclusively online at Ulta. I had tried to purchase it when it was only on UrbanDecay.com but I got sold out. I was luckily able to get through on Ulta online last week and have been patiently waiting for this package to arrive 🙂
On Saturday, the palette finally came! I was so excited to open it and swatch all the shadows and most importantly, play around with them! I’ve been following the Urban Decay Naked Palettes for a while and even though I always say I don’t need another palette I always end up buying it. If you’re unfamiliar with the line, Naked 1 was warm-toned, Naked 2 was cool-toned, and Naked 3 was rose-gold-toned. The line also came out with mini palettes called the Naked Basics 1 & 2 which were primarily matte shades perfect for everyday use. (I have all of them except for the Basics palettes.)
L to R: High, DirtySweet, Radar, Armor
L to R: Slanted, Dagger, Black Market, Smolder
L to R: Password, Whiskey, Combust, Thirteen
First impression: I really did want to like this palette. I played around with it for Sunday’s makeup and used Dirtysweet on my lid, Whiskey in my crease, and Smolder in my deep crease. The shadows lasted all day (with a primer) and were pretty on the lid but I’ve come to expect really buttery and creamy eyeshadows from Urban Decay. The whole palette didn’t really live up to those expectations. The matte shades were a bit “chalky” and the textures didn’t feel as creamy as the other Naked palettes. Even when I swatched the shadows for the photos above, I felt like I had to swipe my finger a few times to get that color payoff shown in the photo. There was TONS of fallout from the glittery shadows. Be sure to do your eyes first and remove any excess glitter with a makeup wipe before applying your foundation. If not, you might end up looking like a discoball from the glitter fallout. 😉 I personally don’t love Armor, Slanted or Dagger. I think that those shadows are not really in my color family, but could be gorgeous on blue eyes. I tend to gravitate towards shades like High, Dirtysweet, Radar, and the four matte shades. Overall, it’s not a bad palette, it’s just not the palette I was anxiously waiting for. This palette didn’t deliver the quality I’ve come to expect over the years from Urban Decay.
Should you purchase? I do think there’s some gorgeous shades in this palette, but overall the palette is only okay to me. There are tons of other palettes out there that have similar colors and better textured shadows. I would still recommend Naked 1 or Naked 2 over this palette. It’s not a must have by any means, but if you’re a makeup enthusiast you might enjoy it for your collection. It’s available at Ulta or Sephora and retails for $54.
Hope you enjoyed this mini review! Let me know if you’ve gotten this new palette and what you think of it 🙂 Have a marvelous Monday loves! XO♥
