Favorite Beauty Products of 2020
I’ve been doing a lot of Sephora shopping prior to this sale so my to-get list isn’t too crazy this time but I’m really excited about some of these!
Restocks
Charlotte Tilbury Pressed Powder – I’ve reordered this powder so many times now. it’s a long time favorite because it creates the most flawless finish on the skin even with pigment in the powder. I love how it makes my makeup look. I use this to set my makeup and wear shade Medium.
Bumble and Bumble Heat Protectant – I’ve been loving this so much! It protects my hair from hot tools but I LOVE the scent. It just smells like a tropical sweet vacation in a bottle.
Lotus Fresh Night Cream – I love the scent of this and it’s a really moisturizing night cream. I first discovered this from my sister and this is my third restock!
Laneige Sleeping Water Mask – Another long time favorite – I wear this every other night for extra added hydration to my skin.
Splurge Items
Gucci Bronzer – I’ve always been curious about this bronzer and was waiting for the sale to try! I’m interested to see how it compares to my all time favorite bronzer from Hourglass
Marc Jacobs Coconut Gel Highlighter – This is supposed to give the most natural beautiful glowy highlight. I love the peachy gold color and since I’ve been loving liquid/cream products I thought I’d try this product out too.
Other Products
Pat McGrath Concealer – I’ve heard great things about this concealer and can’t wait to try! I’m grabbing shade LM13.
Shiseido Synchro Skin Foundation – I’ve heard about this foundation for a long time but finally decided to try it this sale. It has SPF 30, a radiant finish, and medium coverage. I’m grabbing shade 330.
Saie Liquid Blush – This is a new clean beauty brand at Sephora. I tried their slip tint and liked it but still prefer the IT Cosmetics CC cream over it! This liquid blush has a gel formula and really great reviews. I’m grabbing it in the Rosy shade.
Paula’s Choice Liquid Exfoliant – I’ve heard so much buzz around this liquid exfoliant and you know I’m always down to try new skincare. This has salycylic acid + green tea and it helps with pores, uneven skin texture, acne and blemishes.
Sol de Janiero Mini Bom Dia Cream – So excited to try this body cream! The original scent is nice but this one had a warm floral scent and helps retexturize/nourish the skin. I got a mini size to try it out!
FOUNDATION
My top pick overall will forever be NARS Sheer Glow and my most luxurious pick is the Armani Luminous Silk. I use the Flawless Filter after primer and before foundation when I want an extra flawless finish.
My most recent try was the Saie Slip Tint – I wanted to find something that I liked as much as Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer since they reformulated. I liked it but it doesn’t have much coverage so I still prefer the IT cosmetics cc cream over it.
I’m also adding the NARS soft matte to this list because it’s now my favorite matte foundation! I got this during the holiday VIB sale and it made my top products list for 2020. It’s a comfortable matte foundation with full coverage.
Shade names: Charlotte Tilbury: 3 Light Medium // NARS Sheer Glow and Soft Matte: Barcelona // Armani: 5.75 // Rare Beauty: 240W // IT Cosmetics: Medium Tan // Dior: 3W
For reference, I am generally medium with warm undertones when selecting foundations. I would describe my skin as normal with some oil in my t-zone by the end of the day.
PRIMER
Still loving the Laneige Glowy Makeup Serum and the Urban Decay All Nighter Primer. The Laneige drops give a great glowy base for spring/summer makeup. The All Nighter really grips onto makeup and makes it last all day. For heavier makeup days, the Tatcha Silk Canvas and Hourglass Mineral Veil are still great. I haven’t used it much this last year though with being home more often! I also tried the liquid silk canvas in a mini version and thought it was as long lasting as the original with a lighter feeling on the skin.
CONCEALER
I’m still using the same concealers for the most part. For undereye, I’m still loving the Tarte Shape Tape the most but if you are looking for a more hydrating option the Hourglass is great. My holy grail undereye concealer is Tarte but it’s not sold on Sephora. You can get still get 15% off though with code KHANH on Tarte’s website. 😉 They also just came out with an Ultra Creamy Version which is has skincare and is more hydrating.
Shade names: Tarte: Light Medium Neutral 29N or Light Medium Sand 27S // Hourglass: Fawn for undereye and Beech for all over
For reference, I usually get light or light medium with neutral undertones when selecting concealers for undereye and medium with warm undertones for all over.
SETTING POWDER, FINISHING POWDER, AND SETTING SPRAY
Still loving the same setting powders – they’re all ranked similar to me and all great options! The Charlotte Tilbury setting spray has become my favorite now – it makes my makeup last so long and is pretty good under a mask too! And of course my number one recommendation is the light palette (volume 1) year after year. These are finishing powders applied after your setting powder and they give the most beautiful glow and luminosity to the skin.
BRONZER
I recently tried the Jouer bronzer Duo and NARS Bronzing cream and love both! The Hourglass is still my favorite of all time but the Jouer is really pigmented and easy to blend. The NARS bronzing cream is so beautiful for cream contour and just melts into the skin. It’s a cream to powder formula and I hope they make it permanent!
Shade names: Hourglass: Radiant Bronze Light// Fenty: I$land Ting // Tarte: Park Ave Princess // NARS: Laguna // Jouer: Sunkissed/Sunset
BLUSH
I’ve always loved blush but recently over the last few months I cannot stop buying new blushes to try. I’m also loving cream and liquid blushes now with all the new releases from makeup brands. I feel like every brand is coming out with a cream blush. I’m still loving the Jouer Blush duo and my most recent blush purchase was the Hourglass Sublime Flush. It’s such a pretty color with a hint of lilac.
Shade Names: Jouer: Adore // Charlotte Tilbury: Ecstasy and Pinkgasm // Tarte: Risque and Captivating // Hourglass: Sublime Flush and Mood Exposure
HIGHLIGHTER
No real changes here 🙂 Love all of these but still loving the Jouer the most. It gives the most amazing glow and is less expensive compared to the others. If you haven’t tried the Becca highlighters, I definitely recommend trying before they go out of business later this year!
Shade names: Jouer – Skinny Dip // Fenty: Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby and Afternoon Snack/Mo’ Hunny // Becca: Opal and Champagne Pop // Charlotte Tilbury: Spotlight
BROWS AND EYES
Still using my same brow pencil for my brows but back to clear brow gel again to set. This mascara primer + mascara combo has been amazing for my lashes. Highly recommend the lash idole mascara if you haven’t tried! My favorite eyeshadow to wear day to day now is the Laura Mercier shadow stick in Caramel. It’s quick and easy and just adds a little matte shadow to my lid. I also love the Charlotte Tilbury quads or the Natasha Denona Mini Palette for a quick and easy eye look.
Shade names: Anastasia: Chocolate // Becca: Light to Medium // Charlotte Tilbury: Pillow Talk and Golden Goddess // Laura Mercier Shadow Sticks: Caramel and Copper
LIPSTICK
These are primarily nudes and peachy nudes 🙂 My favs recently are NARS Belle de Jour, Charlotte Tilbury Nude Kate, and Givenchy Beige Caraman. I can’t find the Too Faced lipsticks anywhere anymore but if you can find them I love Skinny Dipping’ and Birthday Suit.
Shade names: Fenty: Unbutton // Givenchy: Beige Caraman // NARS: Belle De Jour // Too Faced: Skinny Dippin’ and Birthday Suit / / Tarte: Colada // Charlotte Tilbury: Nude Kate and Penelope Pink // Smashbox: Fair Game
LIPLINER
Shade names: Sephora: 2 Nothin but Nude // Charlotte Tilbury: Iconic Nude and Pillowtalk // Marc Jacobs: Nude(ist)
LIPGLOSS
I will forever love a glossy lip and these are my favorite glosses! The Tom Ford is such a splurge but I’m so glad I finally got it last sale. It’s the prettiest nude gloss.
Shade names: Fenty: Fenty Glow and Fenty Glow in Gloss Bomb Cream // Tom Ford: Crystalline // Marc Jacobs: Sugar, Sugar and French Tickler (For some reason Sugar, Sugar is sold out on Sephora but found it on sale and in stock here)// Buxom: Bellini (for some reason this color is not available at Sephora but is available at Ulta) and White Russian
MAKEUP BRUSHES
The dual ended Hourglass brush is a must have for me. I wanted it for SO long and finally got it a year ago. I use the larger side for bronzer every day and the smaller side for my undereye powder. The other is the Sephora foundation brush – it has finely packed bristles that really buff in your foundation. If you are struggling with cream blush application, I highly recommend the Fenty 125 brush. It blends and applies cream and liquid blushes so nicely.
SKINCARE
My two top recommendations are the Lancome Serum and the Sunday Riley Treatment. The Lancome helps with brightening and hyperpigmentation while the Sunday Riley has helped with acne scars and skin texture. They are pricey but they are worth it so I definitely recommend grabbing them at the sale price. My full skincare routine is saved on the “Skincare” highlight on my instagram.
HAIR
My two favorite hair products have been the Gisou Honey Hair Oil and Bumble and Bumble Heat Protectant. I also added in my styling products and dry shampoo recs. I have a few tutorials on my highlights for hair tutorials.
