Favorite Beauty Products of 2020
Most of these are restocks but I’m really excited to pick up the new Patrick Ta blush palette, the Charlotte Tilbury Glow Palette and the Rare Beauty Blush minis!
MUST HAVE RECOMMENDATIONS
I also shared an overview of my must have recommendations here and here.
FOUNDATION
My top two picks for foundation are still NARS Sheer Glow and Armani Luminous Silk. I’ll always have a bottle of each in my makeup collection – they are truly amazing foundations! I use the Flawless Filter after primer and before foundation when I want an extra flawless finish.
My favorite matte foundation is the NARS soft matte and I’ll probably be reaching for it more as the weather gets colder. This one is full coverage and gives a beautiful matte finish without being drying.
Shade names: Charlotte Tilbury: 3 Light Medium // NARS Sheer Glow and Soft Matte: Barcelona // Armani: 5.75 // IT Cosmetics: Medium Tan // Dior: 3W // Shiseido: 330 Bamboo
For reference, I am generally medium with warm undertones when selecting foundations. I would describe my skin as normal with some oil in my t-zone by the end of the day.
PRIMER
Still loving the Laneige Glowy Makeup Serum and the Urban Decay All Nighter Primer. The Laneige drops give a great glowy base for spring/summer makeup. The All Nighter really grips onto makeup and makes it last all day. For heavier makeup days, the Tatcha Silk Canvas and Hourglass Mineral Veil are still great. I haven’t used it much this last year though with being home more often! I also tried the liquid silk canvas in a mini version and thought it was as long lasting as the original with a lighter feeling on the skin.
CONCEALER
I’m still using the same concealers for the most part. For undereye, I’m still loving the Tarte Shape Tape the most but if you are looking for a more hydrating option the Hourglass is great. My holy grail undereye concealer is Tarte but it’s not sold on Sephora. You can get still get 15% off though with code KHANH on Tarte’s website. 😉 They also just came out with an Ultra Creamy Version which is has skincare and is more hydrating.
Shade names: Tarte: Light Medium Neutral 29N or Light Medium Sand 27S // Hourglass: Fawn for undereye and Beech for all over
For reference, I usually get light or light medium with neutral undertones when selecting concealers for undereye and medium with warm undertones for all over.
SETTING POWDER, FINISHING POWDER, AND SETTING SPRAY
Still loving the same setting powders – they’re all ranked similar to me and all great options! For the past few months, I’ve been using the Charlotte Tilbury powder for setting all over my face and the Laura Mercier translucent in Honey for under my eye. The Charlotte Tilbury setting spray continues to be a favorite. It really makes your makeup last all day and is the best setting spray I’ve tried.
This year, I’m also recommending Volume II of my beloved Hourglass Lighting Palette. These are finishing powders that are applied after your setting powder giving a beautiful lit from within glow to the skin. I would recommend choosing the one that is more complimentary to your skin tone. I have both and do love both but I don’t think you need both of them.
BRONZER
I’ve tried many bronzers and my favorite is still the Hourglass Bronzer. It’s so finely milled and just looks so gorgeous on the skin. I use the NARS bronzing cream to cream contour and the Fenty for my nose contour. Unfortunately the NARS isn’t available on Sephora anymore since it was limited edition but I did see it’s still available on NARS site (just not on sale). I haven’t tried the ABH cream bronzer but it looks like a good option that’s part of the sale or the Patrick Ta duo.
Shade names: Hourglass: Radiant Bronze Light// Fenty: I$land Ting // Tarte: Park Ave Princess // NARS: Laguna // Jouer: Sunkissed/Sunset // Gucci: 3 Medium
BLUSH
I’ve always been a blush fanatic but this year I really started loving cream blushes! Here are some of the ones I’ve been loving the most. Lately I’ve been combining the hourglass cream stick and layering with the Laura Mercier on top.
Shade Names: Hourglass: Wonder // Makeup by Mario: Raspberry // Charlotte Tilbury: Ecstasy and Pinkgasm // Laura Mercier: Ginger // Tarte: Risque and Captivating // Hourglass: Sublime Flush and Mood Exposure // Jouer: Adore
HIGHLIGHTER
Love all of these but still loving the Jouer the most. It gives the most amazing glow and is less expensive compared to the others. It is a delicate formula though so I wouldn’t recommend traveling with it.
Shade names: Jouer – Skinny Dip // Fenty: Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby and Afternoon Snack/Mo’ Hunny // Charlotte Tilbury: Spotlight
BROWS AND EYES
Still using my same brow pencil for my brows but back to clear brow gel again to set. This mascara primer + mascara combo has been amazing for my lashes. Highly recommend the lash idole mascara if you haven’t tried! My favorite eyeshadow to wear day to day now is the Laura Mercier shadow stick in Caramel. It’s quick and easy and just adds a little matte shadow to my lid. I also love the Charlotte Tilbury palettes or the Natasha Denona Mini Palette for a quick and easy eye look. I’ve been eyeing the Patrick Ta palette for a while but not sure if I’ll purchase this sale or next.
Shade names: Anastasia: Chocolate // Becca: Light to Medium // Charlotte Tilbury: Pillow Talk and Golden Goddess // Laura Mercier Shadow Sticks: Caramel and Copper
LIPSTICK
I have an IGTV with swatches of my favorite nude lipsticks, liners, and glosses on my Instagram. They’re primarily nudes and peachy nudes which I’ve gravitated towards for the last few years 🙂 My favs recently are NARS Belle de Jour, Charlotte Tilbury Nude Kate & Yes Honey, and Givenchy Beige Caraman. I can’t find the Too Faced lipsticks anywhere anymore but if you can find them I love Skinny Dipping’ and Birthday Suit. It looks like the Givenchy lipstick is sold out in Beige Caraman right now too but if it comes back in stock, it’s one of my favorites.
Shade names: Fenty: Unbutton // Givenchy: Beige Caraman // NARS: Belle De Jour // Too Faced: Skinny Dippin’ and Birthday Suit / / Tarte: Colada // Charlotte Tilbury: Nude Kate, Penelope Pink, and Yes Honey // Smashbox: Fair Game
LIPLINER
Shade names: Sephora: 2 Nothin but Nude // Charlotte Tilbury: Iconic Nude and Pillowtalk // Marc Jacobs: Nude(ist)
LIPGLOSS
I will forever love a glossy lip and these are my favorite glosses! The Tom Ford is such a splurge but I’m so glad I finally got it last sale. It’s the prettiest nude gloss with tiny tiny specks of gold shimmer.
Shade names: Urban Decay: Runyon // Fenty: Fenty Glow and Fenty Glow in Gloss Bomb Cream // Tom Ford: Crystalline // Marc Jacobs: Sugar, Sugar (For some reason Sugar, Sugar is sold out on Sephora but found it on sale and in stock here)// Buxom: Bellini (for some reason this color is not available at Sephora but is available at Ulta) and White Russian
MAKEUP BRUSHES
The dual ended Hourglass brush is a must have for me. I wanted it for SO long and finally got it over a year ago. I use the larger side for bronzer every day and the smaller side for my undereye powder. Two other brushes that I think are worth the splurge are the Fenty 125 for cream blush and Patrick Ta Contour brush for cream contour. Both of them blend and apply cream products so effortlessly. They’re easy to use and provide precise application.
SKINCARE
My two top recommendations are the Lancome Serum and the Sunday Riley Treatment. The Lancome helps with brightening and hyperpigmentation while the Sunday Riley has helped with acne scars and skin texture. They are pricey but they are worth it so I definitely recommend grabbing them at the sale price. I also recently got the peach iced tea scent of the laneige lip mask and have been loving that. Since last sale, I’ve added in using the BHA exfoliant every morning. My full skincare routine is saved on the “Skincare” highlight on my instagram since some products are not available on Sephora.
BODY LOTION
I use these two daily and I swear the creme de corps has made my skin softer over the last year and a half! It’s unscented so I layer some of the bum bum cream on top. It smells so good!
HAIR
My two favorite hair products have been the Gisou Honey Hair Oil and Bumble and Bumble Heat Protectant. I also added in my styling products and dry shampoo recs. I have a few tutorials on my highlights for hair tutorials.
